Getting My Off-Grid Solar Install at Stony Oasis Done

Finally Back on the Solar System Install and Getting Close!

Components at the solar panels.

Spent a day working on my solar install up at Stony Oasis, and got that much closer to finishing it. Will be glad when it is done and I wake up there every morning! I cannot wait!

Got the inverter hung, as well as the 150 amp sub panel. I also got everything wired up at the 3735 watt bifacial solar panels I have installed. because of the bifacial aspect I should realize about 10-20% more energy produced. I will be covering the ground under the panels with a white landscape rock....so the morning sun can reflect up on the panels underneath. Cool thing is I can see just how much I gain when I do, as systems these days have their own apps so you can see everything.

You can see my weather proof box, and the breaker and surge control in the image to the right. This will handle the 4000 watts of around 350 volts that will be produced on a sunny day.

Will this be enough soalr input to keep me in power when living there? I am not sure, but I doubt it...I will live with it for a while and see. I have plans to upgrade these two batteries with a 10 Kwh battery, and even another one to increase my compacity to 32 Kwh if need be. I feel 32 Kwh will be all I need, with that much storage I could even run the AC on my RV on sunny days for sure.

You can see the batteries I have now below....these are likley going to be moved over to my other solar array that runs my well pump...as I would love to pump water 24/7...which would pump about 10,000 gals every day. Could keep a large pond full of water with that kind of daily water.

You can see the concrete board in the image of the batteries...and important addition for fire protection on a solar install.

I needed some more parts to finish this up, so I will get those ordered and get back up and finish the install...really looking forward to it!

Update on the Fruit Tree Planting

I had to try to keep the deer off my newly planted fruit trees...but have failed. My hot fence is simply not getting the job done...likley because the soil is so dry in spots it does not conduct electricity enough to provide a strong enough shock to deter them. They have eaten most of the leaves, bit I can see it is not killing the trees. So I hope I can get my solar installed then out a double fence around the trees and finally prevent the deer from getting in.

Have you ever had to deal with this? If so what did you do, and were you successful?

Even with the deer eating on my trees I will not be deterred, I will figure out how to keep them out, and I will likley plant another 100 fruit trees. I want fruit dropping everywhere. I want to literally over do it! I want a food forest that will feed 100 people!

If the SHTF will I guard my food-forest, will I keep it all for myself....no, I will not, I will share with anyone who is hungry. If we eat it all so be it. I am not doing this for selfish reasons.

Conclusion

Have you ever, or do you now live off grid? Ever installed a solar system? I would love to hear your thoughts in a comment.
